Reach Net Zero carbon

gategroup recognizes that, as a provider of CO2-intensive services, the company has a responsibility to participate in the transition to sustainable energy sourcing and use. As part of our action plan to reduce energy consumption and Scope 1 and 2 emissions, we are adopting energy-efficient practices in our buildings. We are also increasing self-generated energy solutions, expanding the use of renewable energy in our purchased energy mix, and transitioning our highloader and support vehicle fleet to low-emission models, with more charging stations for electric vehicles being added.

In 2024, we identified the relevant Scope 3 emission categories based on group-wide activities and explored meaningful ways to assess their impact.

Targets

Strive for 100% of gategroup’s electricity consumption (purchased or generated) to come from renewable sources by 2030.
Establish a baseline on all relevant Scope 3 categories and start tracking progress by 2026.
Define a Science-Based Targets-aligned path to reach Net Zero carbon by 2027.
Strive for a 10% reduction in purchased energy consumption relative to revenue, compared to 2023 levels, by 2027.

Avoid operational waste and prioritize recycling

Health, safety, and worker protection are fundamental to our business, and the prevention of accidents is paramount. Group-wide operational health and safety protocols establish the relevant infrastructure and behavioral norms, ensuring a consistent approach to safety across all levels of the organization. We prioritize the overall well-being of our employees, fostering a culture that supports both physical and mental health.

At gategroup, we understand the significant impact that waste has on the environment, which is why we are taking a serious approach to reimagining our waste management processes, by applying the integrated waste management hierarchy and promoting recycling and circular solutions.

Promote recycling and circular solutions at main production sites to reduce landfilled waste by 2030.
Strive to achieve zero food waste solutions across production operations by 2040.

Manage water use

Water plays a vital role in everything from the farmlands we rely on for high-quality produce to the kitchens where we prepare meals and sanitize cookware. We recognize that protecting this essential natural resource is not only important from a humanitarian perspective but also critical for our business operations.

In 2024, we continued the global rollout of a dishwasher metering solution to monitor and optimize water usage, improving efficiency and reducing consumption of water, chemicals, and energy. Additionally, many of our locations introduced water-saving solutions, such as motion sensor taps and low-flow faucets, to further contribute to water conservation efforts.

Strive to cut the water intensity ratio by 20% across all locations in water-stressed areas, compared to the 2023 baseline, by 2035.

Avoid pollution

We are dedicated to preventing pollution across our direct operations. In our catering business, potential soil and water pollution primarily stem from the use of chemicals in dishwashing processes and limited air emissions from our vehicle fleet used to deliver meals. In our packaging operations, we strive to minimize pollution from both production processes and products, whether affecting air, water, or soil.
