ZURICH Glattbrugg, July 11, 2021 – gategroup (gg) has expanded its reach in Asia with the launch of its Gate Gourmet brand at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu (KTM), the largest international airport in Nepal.
This is a collaboration together with Soaltee Hotel Limited (SHL). SHL is a pioneer in Nepal’s hospitality sector and recipient of several prestigious awards and accolades over the years. The company owns and operates The Soaltee Kathmandu, a 12-acre five-star deluxe hotel, and Horizon Lounge at the TIA KTM, as well as owns KTM’s only in-flight catering kitchen which will be co-branded with Gate Gourmet. KTM will be a springboard for gg and SHL to grow across Nepal. SHL has established another property Soaltee Westend Premier Hotel, a five-star hotel in Nepalgunj, western Nepal, which is the only LEED certified hotel in Nepal from the US Green Building Council, USA.
Effective 11 July 2021, the collaboration provides for Gate Gourmet to provide technical and management services to the existing operations at KTM. The unit will be part of gategroup’s network of global catering facilities, with the Gate Gourmet brand, operational standards, and relevant corporate support functions. KTM airport handled more than 7 million international passengers in 2019 and there continues to be potential for expansion of Gate Gourmet’s services in a country of 29 million as well as tourists around the world.
